Celebrity Crush: Katy Perry

Katy Perry in California Gurls

Katy Perry first arrived on the music scene in 2008. With fast-paced dance songs, emotional power ballads, and an eclectic and colorful style, she released innovative music videos with strong vocals that propelled her to popularity in mainstream music. As a six time winner of the MTV Video Music Awards, she's been widely recognized for the creative cinematography of her videos; a prime example is her video for "Firework", which employs darker hues and backgrounds to highlight the brightness of the fireworks used. Another great example, her music video for "California Gurls", which has amassed 370 million views, remains well-known for its playful pastel colors and the theme of candy to represent a person's sweetness. Her inspiring song "Rise" was used as the backdrop to the 2016 Summer Olympics. She announced that she would be releasing her fifth album in 2017, and plans on taking her time writing and exploring different types of music.

More recently, Katy Perry has been gaining attention for her charitable work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. This past November (2016), she was honored by UNICEF with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award for her work in support of the world’s most vulnerable children. She brings awareness to the forefront on issues like education, child impoverishment, and climate change, which affect children worldwide. She has been a tireless advocate for children through her successful campaigns with UNICEF since 2013, proving that her beauty is not only skin deep.

We find Katy Perry's playful take on music videos inspiring. The bright, pastel colors and fun vibe she uses in her videos and music -- especially "California Gurls" -- are aligned with our S/S 2018 Candy Crush trend! Flirty, cute, and fun, just like our prints for this trend:
